Kahn Design, which was formerly branded as Project Kahn, recently released a wide-track modification package for the Panamera of Porsche.

The tuning firm installed a lowered suspension kit and a custom stainless exhaust to improve performance. The exhaust setup made by Kahn surely beefs up the horsepower by a few notch and there is also an option for exhaust tips to add some more flare.

What sets the Panamera by Kahn from the rest of the pack is the wide-track package which ups the style of the car with rear airdam, vented wheel arches, side vents, painted calipers, trunk spoiler, and tinted windows and rear lights. Afzal Kahn pushes for their own RS600 twenty two inch alloy rims to complete the look of the Porsche Panamera.

The interior gets a black and red leather treatment following the color of the gauges. Kahn Design also has several additional options like bixenon headlights, satellite navigation, parking assist, iPod connectivity, power liftgate, and heated seats.

Afzal Kahn actually says that any part of the Porsche Panamera can be customized depending on the likings of the client. These upgrades we have mentioned above will set you back at least $136,500.

If you think the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is potent enough with its supercharged 6.2L V8 engine giving out 580 horsepower with a torque of 556 pound-feet torque, the tuning company Hennessey Performance Engineering thinks otherwise. HPE just launched their upgrade kits for the supercar of Chevrolet springing the output up to 1,021 horsepower.

The tuning kit called HPE1000 Twin-Turbo is reported to give out 1,021 HP at around 6,400 rpm. The internals of the supercar has been done with the installation of the 7.0L LSX engine, low-compression pistons, camshaft, forged steel crank, cylinder heads that are high flow, and improved fuel system that gets new injectors.

The turbo system with dual wastegates, air-to-air intercooler, boost controller, and redone exhaust system made of stainless steel brings the whole setup to another level. The powerful engine is paired with a manual gearbox with dual friction clutch.

This tuned Camaros will also get an exterior badging to boast the HPE1000 kit, serial numbers on the dash, engine plaques, and HPE designed headrests and floor mats.

If you think 1,021 HP is too much, Hennessey will also offer a milder but very potent 800 HP, 700 HP, 650 HP, and 600 HP variants.

You can order the Hennessey tuned Camaro ZL1 before the end of 2011. Each car will come with a 12,000 mile warranty for a year.

If you are from California, take note that this car is not compliant with the state’s emission laws.

Buying a car is a major investment; one way that you can lower the cost is to buy a used car. There are actually quite a few good reasons to buy used, the biggest is the massive depreciation that new cars take as soon as they are driven off the lot. The process of buying a used car is pretty simple but t there are some things to watch out for.

The first thing that you have to do when you are buying a used car is to figure out how much you can afford to spend. This should be fairly easy if you are planning to pay cash for your car, a little bit trickier if you are going to be financing. If you are paying cash you can just look at how much money you have available. If you are planning to finance the car you will need to determine how much you can afford to pay each month and then work out what this works out to as a purchase price, there are plenty of online calculators to help you do this.

The next step in buying a used car is to decide what kind of car you want. You will want to start with a general idea, do you want a sports car or a family car for example and then narrow it down from there. You are going to want to do research on the cars that you are considering. There are lots of places that you can find out which cars are more reliable and what the approximate value should be. One thing to keep in mind at this point is that some cars have a reputation for being highly desirable used cars. In general you will have to pay extra for these so you may be able to get a better deal by going with one of the many perfectly good cars that doesn’t have the same reputation.

The next thing that you are going to have to do if you are going to be borrowing money to pay for the car is to arrange financing (check out SongNB’s site for more financing info!). You can skip this step if you want and just take the financing that is offered by the dealer but you will get a much better rate if you arrange it ahead of time. You want to get preapproved that way you can negotiate on the financing with the dealer and see if he will offer a better rate.

The last step is to actually go out and find a used car to buy. You have several options, you can buy from private seller or from one of the dealers that sells used cars. Both have their advantages and their disadvantages so you will need to decide which is right for you. As with any car make sure that you take a test drive, it is also a good idea to have a mechanic look the car over.

Electric cars have been around for years, in fact that are as old as the car itself. Back in the early days of car design there was a lot of debate over the best way to power a car and many people tried electricity. Eventually the internal combustion engine would win out but the electric car is now making a comeback.

The basic technology behind electric vehicles has been around for well over a hundred years. Electric vehicles run on a fairly simple electric motor. There are a lot of advantages to using an electric motor; the biggest of these is that there are fewer moving parts than there are on an internal combustion engine. That means that it is far less likely to break. The other obvious advantage is that by not having to use an internal combustion engine there are no green house gases emitted, at least not by the motor itself. Pollution caused by powering the electric motor is another matter.

Although the idea of an electric motor is fairly simple the challenge is in supplying power to the motor. The earliest attempts at this involved using batteries to hold an electrical charge that could power the motor. This works up to a point but the batteries have a very short lifespan which limits how far you can drive. The batteries that are currently being used can be recharged but this is time consuming. The other problem with batteries is that they are heavy and bulky which makes it necessary to design the car around them. There has been considerable progress at developing batteries that hold a charge that allows for long distance driving and at reducing the size. Nevertheless there is still a fairly long way to go before this becomes a practical option.

Another approach that is being used to build electric cars is the use of a fuel cell. This is a fairly simple technology that combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce water. One of the side effects of this reaction is that it produces electricity which can be used to power a motor. This is one of the more promising approaches to electric cars but there are still some hurdles that have to be overcome. The biggest of these is the difficulty in handling hydrogen which makes it difficult for the average driver to use.

The approach to electric cars that we have had the best success with so far are hybrid vehicles. These work like regular electric cars in that a battery is used to power an electric motor. However there is also an internal combustion engine that is used to charge the battery. This is a long way from the goal of the electric car as originally envisioned but it does allow for vehicles that are more fuel efficient and produce less pollution than regular vehicles.

The latest reports state that Toyota is no longer the most valuable car brand. Someone else took the spot, and the new reigning car brand is BMW. This is based on a market study done by Millward Brown. The survey BrandZ Top 100 also stated that Volkswagen and Ford managed to improve their brand values.

Peter Walshe, the President of Millward Brown, noted that Toyota’s decline in brand ranking was largely due to the huge recall crisis this year. Walshe insists, though, that Toyota is a powerful brand, and most strong brands manage to recover from even the biggest crises.

All isn’t exactly well with the leading car brand BMW. While the brand did take the top spot, the same study also indicated that BMW decreased its brand value by 9%. Toyota’s recall crisis just put the brand far behind with a 27% brand value decline. While BMW was able to make the $21.8 billion sales mark, Toyota, due to the recalls, fell far behind the figures.

The brand value survey didn’t just involve car brands. BMW actually ranked 25th in the survey while Toyota ranked 26th. The search engine Google was declared the most valued brand in the world, and it has been in that spot for the last four years.

According to expert Bill Schiering, German car brands Audi and Volkswagen were evaluated as “trustworthy brands” with lower price tags compared to prestige brands BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The Korean car makers Kia and Hyundai sadly missed the top 10 spots for car brands, but they were still considered “well positioned”.
